Indian Grandmaster (GM) Vishwanatan Anand has agreed to face GM Veselin Topalov in a Sofia-held World Champion Match. Had he not, he would have lost automatically. The Bulgarian state has guaranteed a $US 2 million prize fund in exchange of hosting the grandest World Chess Federation (FIDE) event. As initially announced, the event will last between April 5-24, 2010, but may be liable to change in order to fit better in the sporting calendars of both opponents.

The negotiations for the individual contracts Anand and Topalov must sign with FIDE will be run in the few weeks to come. “I shall restrain to disclose any of my terms. This is a normal practice,” Anand told chessdom.bg. Anand expressed his hope that this World Championship Match would win more fans for the game and be a great show.

'Anand is much better than Kasparov.'

Surely he is, in checkers probably. There are only three freat chess players alive today, and Anand is not one of them. Sorry to disappoint you. Oh well.

Anand seems like a gentleman. May the best man win!

I'm sorry that Anand has to play in Topalov's home capital. Oh well. Topa hasn't shown signs of repeating Toiletgate, so we can hope everything will go smoothly.

Anand is rich, and therefore, corrupt?

One of the two is a dunderhead.

Topalov has the unique distinction of winning every Danailov organized/assisted event the first time. San Luis, M-Tel, Bilbao

Even this world championship will be a first for them!

No prizes for guessing who is going to win! :)

To make the game fair and cheating-free, both Anand and Topalov should play in nude; Danailov should be banned from playing venue, or with his hands tied behind his back so that he couldn't make sign languages.

That would hm... help chess to get news coverage.

Anyways, Magnus Carlsen is probably the best player now, so that diminishes my interest in this match.

I'm an Anand fan but surely the next World Champ will be Topalov. Imagine having to play in Bulgaria. Danailov and company will cheat their way to victory. Anand can take the money and retire. But Anand has no choice. The conspiracy is afoot.A hard nosed champ like Bobby or Kasparov,or even Kramnik would have created a scene and refused to play in Bulgaria. But then Anand is a gentleman and we dont want gentlemen champs do we?

Anand played in Kramnik's backyard (everybody knows that UEP is behind the Hensel boys: Leko and formerly Kramnik - if you don't believe me just go to the www.uep-chess.com site) and soundly defeated him. So why not play Topalov in his backyard and repeat the result?

This is exactly what kind of champion we need. Not someone who would go crying everytime. If you are the best, you will be the best even if you play on the moon.
