Reykjavik Open 2012
The Reykjavik Open will be held in a 28.000 square-metre brand-new concert hall in Reykjavik. The organizers are pretty confident that chess will be played in surroundings that will be the most spectacular for an open tournament, EVER! The concert hall, with its many restaurants and bars, even offers concerts during the tournament and is only a few minutes away from the famous nightlife in Reykjavik. (No worries, the acoustics are world-class, and the playing hall sound proof!)
The Icelandic Chess Federation, in co-operation with Icelandair, is offering a special package for overseas players interested in the Reykjavik Open. This attractively priced package includes flight, hotel, fly-bus (between the airport and downtown Reykjavik) and a 25% discount off the entrance fee, and is available to interested players traveling from nearly all Icelandair´s destinations, as can be seen here: http://skaksamband.is/?c=webpage&id=516.
From USA there are direct flights from New York, Boston and Seattle.
The tournament, which has been held on a regular basis since 1964, will feature more than 20 GMs, including Caruana and Navara, which are currently playing in Group A at the Tata Steel Chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee.
Are you ready for Reykjavik? Reykjavik is ready for you!
