2012 SPICE Cup Invitational


2012 SPICE Cup
October 12-21, 2012

Format: 6-player DRR, 3 point scoring system, no draw offer before move 30, 40 moves in 90 minutes, then g/30 + 30 second increment from move 1.

The annual SPICE Cup has been the highest rated International Invitational tournament in U.S. history. This year, the 6th annual event, is no different. We expect the 2012 SPICE Cup to be either category 17 or 18. The following players are confirmed for the 2012 SPICE Cup Invitational:

GM Le Quang Liem - 2693 (Vietnam - Defending Champion)
GM Csaba Balogh - 2668 (Hungary - first time participant)
GM Wesley So - 2652 (Philippines - Webster University freshman)
GM Georg Meier - 2648 (Germany - 2010 and 2011 runner up, Webster University sophomore)

Prizes: $10,000 guaranteed ($4,000 - $2,000 - $1,500 - $1,000 - $500 - $250; Under 2400 FIDE $500 - $250)

Entry fee: $100 to non GM / IM, which will be fully refunded at the conclusion of the tournament if the player completes all 9 rounds (to discourage withdrawal and byes).

Limited free double occupancy accommodations available for GMs if registered by September 15, 2012 (must complete all 9 rounds)

Format: 9 round Swiss (FIDE and USCF rated), IM, GM, WIM, WGM norm opportunities

Schedule: October 16-19 @ 10 am & 4 pm, October 20 @ 10 am

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes with a 30 second increment starting at move 1.

Registration:
Open to the first forty (40) 2300+ FIDE rated players / maximum 40 players. Registration will be closed by September 17, 2012.

Organizer reserves the right to make a few exceptions.

36 too many young players in spice cup. there should be at least 1 2700+ experienced player. adams - shirov - ivanchuk .. i think they'll accept invite.
