Visiting Paul Morphy's final resting place

Greetings from New Orleans and the 2013 SP National Open for Boys and Girls

Before the activities which start this afternoon, I had a chance to visit and pay respect to the great Paul Morphy at his final resting place.

Who's better? Morphy or Fischer?

A popularly held theory about Paul Morphy is that if he returned to the chess world today and played our best contemporary players, he would come out the loser, he would come out the loser. Nothing is further from the truth. In a set match, Morphy would beat anybody alive today ...

-Bobby Fischer

RIP Morphy

Fischer's adoration of Morphy is like Efren Reyes' adoration of Mike Sigel.

All of which are considered one of the greatest to play chess (& billiards).

Thanks Coach Susan for sharing.

Susan - when you met Bobby in the mid 1990's, you met Paul Morphy's spiritual chess heir.

If you ever get the chance to meet Frank Brady, Fischer's biographer, ask him to show you where Bobby put his hand on the imprint of Morphy;s hand at the Marshall CC in New York City.

R.I.P. Paul Morphy.
