I actually saw this move before memorizing that I saw this puzzle before (only the solution move made me remember it).

1. ... hxg6 (Ke7 was the same only one move shorter)
2. Qxg6+ Ke7
3. Nf5#

Cute mate in 3.

Perhaps the earlier puzzle you have mentioned did not have black N at d4 and white N at g3.

Perhaps you are right about the earlier puzzle I saw, at least I was too quick when I recognized the first move here:-)
